DEPARTMENT HEAD- MARITIME SYSTEMS ENGINEERING

Texas A&M University at Galveston, Department of Maritime Systems Engineering, invites applications for the position of Department Head. The successful candidate will be principally responsible for providing leadership, administering the department, preparing the Department for future ABET reaccreditation, and teaching undergraduate courses in basic engineering mechanics and offshore, or coastal engineering.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering or a closely related field and meet the qualifications for appointment as a tenured full professor.  Professional registration and practical experience in offshore engineering design are highly desirable.  The successful candidate must have a record of proven administrative skills, successful leadership, and teaching and research accomplishments.

Texas A&M University at Galveston is the only branch campus of Texas A&M University in College Station and it is a special purpose marine and maritime institution.  The Maritime Systems Engineering Department concentrates its academic program in the areas of offshore structure analysis and design, and coastal engineering. With the Gulf of Mexico immediately adjacent, emphasis is placed on field studies and interaction with nearby maritime firms. The individual selected as the Department Head will be able to focus the faculty teaching and research programs using several open Assistant Professor positions.   In addition, planning for a new Engineering Building on the Galveston campus has begun and it is expected that the new Department Head will have significant input into its design.  A Memorandum of Agreement with the College of Engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station provides the opportunity for important ties to the main campus.  Specifically, the agreement provides the opportunity for qualified faculty at Galveston to be appointed to the graduate faculty at College Station and reasonable access to the research facilities at College Station.
