Association of Diving Contractors International Forms New Latin American
Chapter
Houston (25 August 2000) - Responding to
a petition submitted by member companies located in nations south of the
U.S. border and in the Caribbean, the Board of Directors of the
Association of Diving Contractors International has approved the
formation of the Latin American & Caribbean Chapter. This
Chapter will represent 21 current ADC member companies located in
Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad,
and Venezuela.
Other companies from the region who desire to join ADC will be required
to seek approval of the Chapter officers in addition to the ADC Board of
Directors.
The formation of the new Chapter came about due to an expressed belief
that member companies needed to have stronger regional representation,
and that a Chapter could benefit all in a number of ways. Because
of the fact that all ADC member companies have pledged to use the ADC
Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving Operations and other ADC
Standards that promote Safety, communication with regional governments
from the Chapter will emphasize a need to apply these Standards as
common practice to promote
safety at the regulatory level. By forming a Chapter using the existing
high standards necessary for membership, the companies represented would
be better able to cooperate one with the other and across national
borders where applicable
The ADC Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving Operations establish
specific guidelines addressing procedures, training, medical
examination, manning levels, equipment, and diver certification.
These Standards set forth the minimums below which no member company may
operate. The more than 375 member companies throughout the world
express a common recognition of these Standards as necessary to promote
the highest levels of Safety while offering sufficient flexibility to
accommodate regional requirements where operational conditions require
more, but never less, stringent procedures.
Twelve of the current 21 member companies located throughout the region
met with the ADC Executive Committee in Aruba on 11 and 12 August to
work out the details of forming the Chapter. Elected officers of
the Latin American and Caribbean Chapter shall serve a one-year term and
may be reelected for
additional terms of office. The newly elected officers are:
Chairman: Sr. Lazaro Del Castillo, Sebute, S.A., Colombia
Vice Chairman: Mr. Antonio Donata,
Coastal Diving Services Ltd., Trinidad
Vice Chairman: Sr. Armando
Rivera, Cabo Diving Services, Mexico Secretary/Treasurer:
Snra. Enza Passanisi de Pina, Tecni a Bordo,
Venezuela
The Chapter will follow the bylaws of the parent organization, the
Association of Diving Contractors International, except that it was
agreed
that officers of the Chapter must, to the maximum extent possible, each
derive from a different nation.
